- The now well-known behind closed door deals that Senate leadership used to obtain the “yes” votes of privileged senators to pass health care legislation have outraged Americans. Concerned Women for America (CWA) has a new video that imagines what a conversation between the Senate Leadership office and a staffer for an undisclosed senator could sound like. Is this the way our government should work? Go to www.cwfa.org to watch the video, “How to Pass Health Care Reform 101 (a not-so-funny look)” and to learn more about Obamacare.
- CWA is now accepting applications for the Ronald Reagan Memorial Internship Program summer session. One former legal intern, Dale Austin, served under the supervision of the Alliance Defense Fund while studying at Regent University School of Law. When she returned to law school, she started a campus Prayer/Action Chapter and got students involved in praying and responding to the issues. Upon her graduation, Dale returned home and is now serving with CWA of Georgia as their Legislative Liaison. It is such an inspiration to watch our interns develop spiritually, professionally, and intellectually. If you or someone you know would be interested in our internship, please call 1-800-458-8797.
- Dr. Janice Shaw Crouse, Director and Senior Fellow of CWA’s Beverly LaHaye Institute, pulls no punches in her latest article, “The Inherent Perils of the Charismatic Personality.” It can be found at www.cwfa.org and www.townhall.com.
- David Bereit of 40 Days for Life recently interviewed Abby Johnson, a former Planned Parenthood abortion facility director who quit and joined a pro-life group after witnessing an abortion. David graciously allowed us to share Abby's experience and how federal funding to Planned Parenthood is actually used. You can listen to the interview at www.cwfa.org.
- Thank you for the support you have shown us in the fight for the values we all hold dear. May you have a blessed New Year filled with joy and prosperity as you seek after the Lord.
"Just take a stand" it makes a difference. For Christ it counts, I was so impressed and O'Reilly was surprised but good surprise. -Joann

Brit Hume Was Right
Jesus Christ transforms lives by forgiving our failings
Washington, D.C. – “On Fox News Sunday this weekend Brit Hume bravely spoke a truth that, in today’s hostile culture, is the one belief the tolerant cannot tolerate,” notes Wendy Wright, President of Concerned Women for America.
“He pointed out how Tiger Woods, whose sexual sins have damaged his marriage, family and career, can recover. It is a tried and true method with centuries of evidence to back it up. From Saul of Tarsus, who was intent on murdering Christians, to John Newton, captain of a slave ship, to Chuck Colson, Nixon’s notorious ‘hatchet man,’ to millions of others who have committed less egregious transgressions.
“Jesus Christ transforms people’s lives. Saul became the Apostle Paul. John Newton became a pastor, penned the song “Amazing Grace” and influenced William Wilberforce to end the slave trade. Chuck Colson went from prisoner to founder of Prison Fellowship, a ministry to the imprisoned.
“As Brit Hume suggested, Tiger Woods could become another Chuck Colson – a messed-up individual whose life can be radically changed. Acknowledging the benefits of Christianity is perfectly reasonable and backed up by the testimonies of countless others.
“But let’s be honest. Brit Hume would not be viciously criticized if he had claimed the benefits of any other religion or non-religion. It’s only when a Christian speaks of the advantages of Christianity that the modern secularist goes into orbit. No Christian should silence himself from a truth known deep in his soul. Brit Hume is to be commended for his courage to speak up and take the heat. All for a very simple idea – that God loves us and can turn our broken lives into something better, something we could never have imagined.
“On this Twelfth Day of Christmas, we’re reminded that Jesus came to our world out of sheer love for each one of us to pay the penalty of our sins so we can reap the benefits of forgiveness and a changed life. Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for us that we might be redeemed. No other religion offers this. And no one who has a proven solution to a problem should be forced to be silent.”
We should all be so strong in our faith ," I am not ashamed of the gospel," says Paul, me either.
Blessings, Joann
Maine Families Safer, For Now
|
Dear Kenda,
Maine has won a victory for marriage! Let's enjoy the victory today, look forward to how we can extend this victory to our children and grandchildren, while continuing to offer the grace and love of Christ to all Mainers.
This victory is a tale of hard work from Mainers across the state. Men like Eric White who begins his day at 3:30 a.m. as a lobsterman and ended most of his days way after dark collecting signatures, putting up signs, or making "get out the vote" calls. Young people like those from Calvary Chapel School who told their stories at a press conference, made phone calls, and went door to door on Election Day. Women like Gete Thomson who gathered her friends and stood on busy street corners waving "Yes on 1" signs every Friday and Saturday.
This victory is a tribute to the ingenuity of Mainers. The stories I have heard in the last few weeks are truly Maine, like that of Mark Hewes who sprayed his yard sign with "hunting scents." That was the last sign stolen from his yard! Can you imagine the smell in that car?
This victory is a testament to the sacrifice of Mainers. Men like Don Mendel who has risked his livelihood as a public school counselor to appear on a Yes on 1 commercial. Families and whole churches who have given financially to the campaign.
While we are enjoying the victory, we must consider how we are going to sustain the win for generations to come. The Church must become vigilant in protecting the marriages in our influence from pornography, fornication, adultery, bitterness and all the "little foxes that spoil the vineyard of love."
Maine must become the 31st state to have a constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman! We must elect men and women to the State House who will defend families! Without changing our legislature, we will be fighting this issue by referendum again and again.
Finally, we must ask the Lord to give us opportunities to share the love and grace of our Savior with those on the "No on 1" side. We will never change our culture through legislation--only through reaching people with the same love that has changed our hearts. The ground at the cross is level, and all of us are in need of a Savior to deliver us from the bondage of sin.
